Charnwood Warriors move clear at the top of Regional Divisional One table

NOTTS CITY ACES 45 CHARNWOOD Rutland Warriors regional side maintained their unbeaten start to the season as they secured a crucial 51-45 win over Notts City Aces.

With Warriors level at the top with Notts City before the match they knew they were in for a tough test if they were to maintain their unbeaten record.

They got off to a flying start racing out to a 5-0 lead early in the first quarter.

Notts City stayed in touch however and worked their way into the game trailing by just two goals at quarter time.

With Warriors goal shooter dominating the circle and their defence starting to pick up more turnover ball Warriors began to stretch their lead, ahead by seven goals at one point.

However some strong shooting from Notts City and as their defence began to rush Warriors into mistakes Warriors held a narrow 27-25 lead at half time.

With fresh legs brought on in the wing defence position Warriors began to shut down Notts’ attack as they pressured them into mistakes and won crucial intercepti­ons.

Their attack rewarded them with clinical shooting with their goal attack and goal shooter opening up space well in the circle and gave Warriors their biggest lead of the match, 40-33 with 15 minutes of the match left.

With a switch at goal attack in the final quarter Warriors took a little time to settle however they remained calm and composed on court and despite Notts City’s best efforts they couldn’t be caught as they ran out 51-45 winners to retain top spot in East Midlands Regional Division One.

Warriors face Lincoln City next week as they look to record another victory.
