-

CLAN NETBALL CLUB 49 CHARNWOOD WARRIORS 66 CHARNWOOD Rutland Warriors travelled down to London to play Clan Netball Club knowing that a win would see them stay top of Premier Division 3.

In the early stages of the first quarter Warriors built a lead of 6-2 from the good shooting of Ellie Gallacher and Beth Gabriel. The match then continued to go goal for goal until a period when Warriors scored seven goals unanswered stretching the score to 16-8. To close the gap Clan then scored four goals without reply to make it 16-12.

In the second quarter it was a much tighter affair. Despite great attacking play from Charnwood’s centre court trio of Lucy Alexander, Michelle McGee and Sam Griffin, who linked well with our shooting circle, Clan only allowed Charnwood to extend their lead by one extra goal, finishing the first half of the game leading by five and a score of 32-27.

Starting the third quarter Warriors made some tactical changes with Melissa Oakman moving to the bench and Jaydene Robinson coming back onto the court. The new defensive combination took time to settle and Clan took hold of the early stages of the third quarter to take a one goal lead in the game for the first time.

Warriors finally settled and started to play some fluent netball between Griffin, and Alexander with Abbie Hymas working to bring the ball through court. The final stages of the third quarter belonged to Warriors as they managed to stretch the lead to 49-41.

In the very early stages of the fourth quarter Warriors showed their dominance forcing multiple turnovers and extending their lead half way through the quarter to 61-43. Clan made multiple changes to allow all of their players court time and Warriors took advantage to pull further ahead with the match ending with a Warriors victory 66-49 which sees them sit top of Premier Division 3.
