Five wins in a row for Carillon Mens 1st XI

-

SUTTON COLDFIELD 0 LOUGHBOROUGH CARILLON MEN’S 1XI 12 CARILLON brought up their fifth straight league win with a hat full of goals in a 12-0 win over Sutton Coldfield 7th XI.

Sutton adopted a very defensive strategy against the league’s top scorers, tightly packing their defensive quarter with 10 men, only leaving one man up the pitch.

From the outset, Carillon put the Sutton back line under pressure with the home team unable to have much respite.

Carillon weren’t denied the opening goal for long as Tom Ward slammed home via a deflection within the first 10 minutes for his first goal of the season.

The score was 5-0 at half time thanks to further goals from Matt MIddleton, with two, Steve Hunter and Tom Lawrie who marked his long awaited debut for the club with a drag flick into the side netting.

The second half continued to be one way traffic, as a visibly tiring Sutton turned over possession regularly which allowed several more opportunities on goal for the advancing Carillon attack.

Matt Middleton, playing in an unaccustomed forward role, scored a further two goals to bring his personal tally to a very impressive four.

Striker partner James Whyte, also had a very good day completing his first senior hat-trick.

The scoring was rounded off with Tom Lawrie getting his second and Steven Livingstone tipping in to the far corner.

Carillon will seek to take their goal scoring form into two games this weekend, Market Harborough on Saturday and a rearranged cup tie with the University of Nottingham.
