HEDGEROW REMOVAL REFUSED. Planning permission to remove an existing hedgerow and erect a new boundary wall to the front of a property in Church Lane, Costock has been refused by Rushcliffe Borough Council.

An application had been made to carry out the changes at 5 Church Lane in the village.

According to Rushcliffe Council: “The proposed development of a front boundary wall in place of a hedgerow would result in the loss of the green, semi-rural character of the street scene. The development would result in Church Lane appearing hemmed in with hard boundary treatments to both sides to the detriment of the character and appearance of the street scene.”

The council further stated: “The development would therefor result in harm to the character and appearance of the Costock Conservation Area. No justification has been provided for this harm and no wider public benefit has been identified that would outweigh the harm.”
