AS PART of the weekly Happy Mondays programme run in partnership with LSU, LU Arts puts on three different performance nights – Cabaret, Speech Bubble and Acoustic Night.

The three events, held in the autumn and spring terms, aim to showcase student talent across the university, including budding poets, songwriters and drag acts. Each of the events is organised by students, with support from LU Arts.

The Acoustic Night is an open mic night featuring a mixture of solo and small group performances, covering a range of musical styles.

This popular event has built up a loyal following in recent years and is being organised by the singer songwriter/contemporary music scholar for 2019/20.

Speech Bubble is a performance poetry night with professional poets performing alongside an open mic slot for students and will take place on December 9. This event is being organised by the Creative writing/spoken word scholar for 2019/20.

Anyone wishing to take part in Acoustic Night or Speech Bubble should email luarts@lboro.ac.uk to express their interest.

Full details of all the music and arts scholarship students for this year will be announced very soon.

Cabaret was a brand-new performance night for this year. Held on November 18 it offered a satirical and seductive night of excessive decadence from a variety of cabaret performers.

Alex Marlowe, LSU LGBT+ Officer and host of Cabaret, said: “It really was a performance evening that had never been seen before at Loughborough. It was a little risqué, dark, decadent and glamourous.”

Nick Slater, director of LU Arts, said: “Cabaret night was a fantastic new addition to this year’s programme and we hope that it will become a regular fixture in the student calendar.”

Tickets for the nights are free for students and £5 for staff and the public.

They will be hosted in Cogs in the Students’ Union and tickets can be bought in advance or paid on the door, although this is subject to availability.
