Town 2nd XI come out on top in five goal thriller

LOOKING to bounce back from last week’s loss and a series of poor results, the Loughborough Town’s 2nd XI faced 10th place Khalsa Leamington 2nd XI.

Town went into the game knowing fast ball and tight marking would likely do enough to break the run of disappointing results. However, it almost felt not to be. Town heads dropped following a series of loose defensive play.

With the score already 1-0 the Khalsa, Town were again chasing the game.

Skipper Adam Lamb audaciously took things into his own hands, hitting the ball from a tight angle towards goal it squeezed through the keeper, drawing the game level but Khalsa Leamington quickly responded, again taking advantage of some loose marking, 2-1 to the away side.

At half time, the opposition had the upperhand, but a motivating rhetoric of National League experienced and under-study Captain

David Alex Henderson saw Town up for the fight.

It was a game of to and fro, one to pull at the heart strings of the dedicated supporters on the sideline. Town again bought themselves back into the game from some fluidly scrumptious attacking play, nervously trickled in at the back post by surprised looking Guest.

From this moment forward Town looked like they did against Burton all those weeks ago, playing unreal hockey. Passes connected, from defence, through midfield to the forwards, who could believe it after the last few weeks.

Finally, hard work at training making its impact. It was a Town corner that made the different, Megicks converting from the top.

It is safe to say a closer finish than Town wanted but they held out for the last 10 minutes and the game ended 3-2 to the home side.

Town will head to Rugby next week, as they look to build upon this win and fight their way back into the top of the league table.
