League leaders prove too strong for The Luffs

LEICESTERSHIRE SENIOR LEAGUE DIVISION ONE LOUGHBOROUGH FC 0 BARROW TOWN RESERVES 2

BOTTOM of the league against top of the league and flying you would have had a hard time deciding which was which in this game.

The Luffs looked anything but relegation candidates but at the end of the day it is points that count and they were not forthcoming for the Loughborough side.

The Luffs new keeper Brandon Holegate was first to be tested but he twice showed a clean pair of hands before the game settled with it becoming an even affair with the home side giving as good as they got.

It took the league leaders half an hour to break down Loughborough’s defence and then it took a thunderbolt free kick from Ben Rybiki to break the deadlock. A free kick from just outside the area flew into the top corner with keeper Holegate riveted to the spot.

The Luffs rallied and Nicholas Ebede went clear but the Barrow keeper Lorcan Morrisey saved the shot and Rida Koultuma also went clear against the keeper who rescued his team for a second time as the Barrow team hung on to their narrow half time lead.

In the second half the Loughborough side reckoned they had done enough for at least a draw, but it didn’t happen not for the first time this season. Rida Koultuma beat two players before letting fly but again keeper Morrisey was there to save. The Luffs defender Sayed Ahmed Sudio joined in the attacks and shot just past the post and Barrow were on the back foot.

Barrow survived an almighty goal mouth scramble as Morrisey dropped the ball but managed to eventually smother it. Loughborough’s Jack Godkin relished his new midfield responsibility but time ran out with The Luffs looking capable of a respectable single goal defeat by the league leaders, but in the dying minutes Rybiki struck for a second time this time outpacing the Loughborough defence to make it a flattering 2-0 victory.
