Ingles earn a share of the spoils at high flying Dunkirk
EAST MIDLANDS COUNTIES LEAGUE DUNKIRK 0 INGLES 0
INGLES came away from high flying Dunkirk with a 0-0 draw however it could have been so much better.
On a wet day the pitch got the go ahead as the anticipated heavy rain stayed away. With Dunkirk only beaten once in the league this season and having a good run in the FA Vase Ingles knew it was going to need a big effort to take anything from the game.
Things were made harder as three strikers were all unavailable with Woodbine, Wilkinson and Bryans all away. Vasey was able to keep the same back five and three of the midfield as Wednesday night but brought in Hardy and Etherington who joined Fowkes up front.
The game started with Dunkirk enjoying possession but Ingles looking very dangerous on the break. Ten minutes in and Ingles broke down the right with Etherington going close and Fowkes when well placed should have scored.
More chances came and went as Dan Tuck screwed a shot wide, Fowkes and Etherington all going close.
Dunkirk were always a threat but Thacker in goal was kept relatively untroubled as Boulter, M Tuck, J Bowley
and Sykes dealt with anything that came at them. Dunkirk were reduced to 10 for the final 10 minutes of the half as their skipper was sin-binned for constant descent. The 10 men actually performed better than the 11 and a fine save from Thacker just before half time kept the scores level.
The second half started with Dunkirk showing a little more going forward but not creating many clear chances.
Ingles remained dangerous on the break with Etherington getting in twice, once where the keeper made a good save and a second time robbing the defender of the ball but firing over when a calmer head was needed.
The Ingles midfield were hassling Dunkirk constantly and on several occasions nicked the ball away to set up counter attacks that on another day and with calmer thinking would have resulted in goals. It was one of these that resulted in a red card for a Dunkirk defender after Fowkes was played through with only the keeper, who was way out of his goal, to beat but the defender tripped Fowkes and the inevitable red card ensued. Ingles had half chances during the last 10 minutes when again a better final pass or calmer thinking would have resulted in the winner.
