LIVER CANCER DEATHS ARE UP DUE TO BOOZY LIFESTYLES

LIVER cancer deaths have hit record levels due to obesity and boozy lifestyles, experts warn. The toll has risen by half across the UK over the past 10 years.

The number diagnosed is up 60% in the same decade. Around half of cases are preventable, and almost a quarter linked to weight.

The disease killed 5,700 people in 2017 – the highest ever annual toll, up from 3,200 in 2007 according to figures from Cancer Research UK. It will rise to 11,000 a year by 2035 said Pamela Healy of the British Liver Trust. Pamela added: “The main reason is the rise in people drinking alcohol to excess and the growth in obesity.”
