‘I once broke my arm on the set of EastEnders tripping over a cabbage’

-

THE boys Are Back! tour is coming to Nottingham and Leicester next year. Helen Barnes caught up with 5ive’s Scott Robinson, to find out more about this hit-packed show of pop favourites.

Tell us 5IVE things that you’re going to be doing today?

Ha! Well, they’re not glamorous things, let me tell you! Ok… 1. Sanding down a workbench in my daughter’s room and then my wife is going to paint it. 2. I’m going to do the tip run. 3. Possibly going to IKEA. 4. A gym workout. 5. Playing Poker this evening, with my pals.

So, tell me about the Boys Are Back tour - what can we expect when you come to Nottingham and Leicester?

You can expect not to sit down! It’s a really good show, the people in it are great. There’s a lot of number ones on that tour. With 5ive, we will keep it really upbeat and do all the big hits – we will leave the ballads alone and just aim to get the crowd moving.

Do you enjoy gigging more these days?

Oh, MUCH more now. You’re older and wiser – and you’re doing it because you want to. It’s nice now. We’ve all got kids, we’ve all got wives – they come along and have a few proseccos, we have a few beers. The kids can watch and see what their dads do. It’s a really nice atmosphere and a great thing to do.

Speaking of children, you’re a father of four – how would you feel if your daughters started following boy bands in the future?

I’d lock them in their rooms! No, I wouldn’t really. I assume that it is going to happen at some point, but the girls are only five at the moment and obviously love Daddy’s music right now. But I’d have to wait and see WHO they’re liking, to make sure they’re OK and I’d definitely be keeping my little beady eye on them!

You’ve got a big birthday around the corner. How will you be celebrating?

Ha! I don’t know what you’re talking about. Move on. I’m a bit gutted because I’m working. It was planned that I was going to be in Vegas, the wives sunbathing, the guys playing poker, and I was really excited about it. Then we had loads of gigs coming in and it wouldn’t be fair to turn one down that the lads could be doing.

So, looking at it logically, I decided to celebrate, but not on the actual day – as I will be turning on the Christmas lights somewhere in Kent. I will have a few drinks and probably go to the pub after too.

I’ve heard you were in EastEnders…

I’ve had various roles, but only ever as extras. I suppose I must have the face for it, but I always seemed to get the thug roles. I actually went for the role of Sean Slater – I got very close, down to the last couple. Looking at the actor who plays him, Rob (Robert Kazinsky), I can see why I didn’t get it – one because he’s a great actor and, two, he’s a bit musclier and sort of ‘aggro’ looking than me! I did once break my arm on the set of EastEnders, falling over a cabbage... True story. I had to spray some horrible racist word on Sanjay’s wall and then run off through the market. I tripped over a cabbage and broke my arm!

Recently, I interviewed a friend of yours, Jimmy, from 911. I asked him if he could think of a good question I could ask you...

Oh go on then, what did he say? What’s it like being so tall…. did he say that?

He actually said, ‘How do you like your tea?’

Ha-ha! The reason why he is saying that is because he is absolutely god awful at making tea. I was watching him make a cup in the green room one day – he was putting the milk in first, then the tea bag, then the sugar and I was thinking ‘god, what are you doing?’ So, I tried to explain to him that he’s just completely killed the tea bag, it’s not going to work.

[Scott then goes into great detail to explain to me how he thinks a cup of tea should be made. I tell him I’m with Jimmy on this one, so agree to a Twitter poll, which Scott won!]

My boys are massive Arsenal fans and I know that you’re a Gunner. They want to know who your favourite player is – they love Pierre Emerick Aubameyang.

I really love Aubameyang too and hope we keep him. I’d honestly have to say, my favourite player at the moment is Guendouzi [Matteo Guendouzi]. I think he’s amazing for such a young lad. He was bought for the future, but his vision is fantastic, and he wants it so much.

Finally, 5IVE best....

1. Gig? With Oasis, Rocking Rio, 2000. 2. Celebrity party? I can’t even remember if I’ve ever been to one. I’d much rather get home, see the Mrs and watch a good film.

3. 5IVE song? Keep On Moving. 4. Photoshoot? Oh, I HATE photoshoots. I honestly can’t think of a good one.

5. Interview? [long pause] Think carefully Scott…! Ha! This one!
