Coun Ted Parton suspended by Conservative Party
LOUGHBOROUGH Conservative councillor, Coun Ted Parton has been suspended from the party.
The borough and county councillor is to be investigated by Tory officials after a complaint was made against him.
He has been removed from the Conservative councillor sections on both council’s websites and re-listed as an independent.
A local Conservative source told LeicestershireLive the suspension related to an alleged post on some social media around four years ago.
The source claimed: “The complaint was totally politically motivated and they have sat on it until now and only chosen to do anything with it as the election approaches.”
The source said he would be investigated but that could not happen until after the election. It will all be sorted out then.
“Ted is in an invidious position. He has been told not to talk to anyone about so he cannot defend himself.”
Charnwood Borough Council said it could not comment on the matter.
The Loughborough Echo and LeicestershireLive have contacted Coun Parton, who represents the Loughborough Southfields ward on Charnwood Borough Council and Loughborough South at County Hall, for comment.
• Loughborough Constituency Conservative Association chairman, Trevor Ranson told the Echo: “Ted Parton has been suspended from the Conservative Party as a formality pending an investigation into an historical allegation. Ted has the full support of his colleagues and we await the outcome which will happen after the election.
“Suspension is a neutral act and Ted has co-operated fully throughout the process.”
