WARWICK 0 LOUGHBOROUGH CARILLON

MENS 1ST XI 3

FOR THE final fixture before the Christmas break Carillon were once again on their travels this time to Warwick.

Warwick while being towards the bottom of the league had an impressive defensive record, an easy fixture this would not be.

Carillon took the game to their opponents from the off with several shots just going wide of the post or saved by the increasingly busy home keeper.

However, it didn’t take long for Matt Middleton to again be among the goals planting an effort into the corner after James Whyte found him with an great cut back from the baseline.

Shortly after it was Middleton again who found another break through after a goalmouth scramble from a short corner.

At 2-0 up Carillon then allowed their opponents back into the game with several instances of sloppy play. Thankfully, the defence led by the returning Jack Sargeant, who collected man of the match for his efforts, snuffed these attacks out.

The half time team talk was stern as it was felt that the team had regressed as the half had gone on and were not playing to their strengths.

This resulted in a much better showing from the boys in the second period with work rate vastly improved.

The scoring was completed by Whyte who got a deserved goal for the effort he put into the match. There were still scares for Carillon with a short corner being saved on the line by Johnny Hie and swept clear by James Young, but that was the only real second half chance of note for Warwick.

The game came to a close and Carillon wrapped up their 10th consecutive win, all achieved without conceding a goal.

It has been an impressive start for a new team with a whole host of junior players playing their first season of adult hockey the team can be rightly proud of their efforts. Please ensure all match reports reach the Echo by Monday at 8pm
