High-tech businesses are welcomed to college

-

TECHNOLOGISTS, scientists and engineers have been given the opportunity to explore specialist facilities and to hear from industry experts and inspirational apprentices at a major Loughborough College event.

Working in collaboration with networking organisation LATi (Loughborough Advanced Technology and Innovation), who promote growth and innovation across the region, the college welcomed a range of businesses from the science, technology and engineering (STEM) sectors.

“We invited them to tour our laboratories and Technology Centre and introduced them not only to our education programmes but also to our initiatives supporting and expanding STEM opportunities for our area’s young people and employers,” said Jillie Oliver, key account manager at Loughborough College.

“Some of our partners brought along STEM

apprentices working with them and studying with us, such as Lucy Fletcher from Druck and from

Polypipe Civils Seth Fish-Read, as well as former

apprentice Dan Ralph, who is now employed by them. Their stories of how they had developed their skills and confidence and what an impact their apprenticeships had had on their lives were inspirational.

“Loughborough College is very much looking forward to continuing our work with LATi and to welcoming businesses and organisations to future

events as we aim to grow the STEM networks which can make such a difference to young people, employers and our region’s economy.”
