New signings are introduced but Luffs slip to another loss

-

LEICESTERSHIRE SENIOR LEAGUE DIVISION ONE LOUGHBOROUGH FC 1 GREENHILLS 3

ANOTHER defeat for the Luffs but it is time to start looking on the positive side, five new signing this week, and for 20 minutes of this game Loughborough were the better side.

New team captain Jack Godkin showed his intention swinging in a cross that scraped the bar while Alex Smith saw his free kick cleared off the line.

Credit the Greenhills side, a wily old side left over from winning the Premier division of the North Leicestershire League last season and they were prepared to take all The Luffs could throw at them and absorb most of it in the midfield.

Inevitably these days they broke away for their first attack of the game, it looked as if the Loughborough keeper Tom Perry had got hold of the ball in a goalmouth scramble but it slipped his grasp and Jack Boobyer was on hand to force the ball over the line from close in.

Greenhills closed ranks, 1-0 would do them nicely but there was still and long way to go and the Loughborough side renewed their initiative. The Greenhills keeper Brogan Mead saved a shot from Nicholas Ebede and Alex Smith hit a wild shot over the bar as the home side looked to equalize before the break and on the passage of play they should have done just that but Greenhills had their lead and they hung onto to it until half time.

In the second half the Luffs never really got to grips with the game, too much individuality and not enough passing to penetrate the visiting defence.

It was late in the game with Greenhills, looking content to take home a 1-0 win, that Jermain Nelson struck to make it 2-0 and the Luffs were facing another sad day. A free kick from outside the area flew into the top corner and it is unlikely James Armstrong will see another like that in his career but it was 3-0 and somewhat flattering for the visitors.

The Luffs never gave up the chase and got a small compensation as Nicholas Ebede forced the ball home to make it 3-1 but it was all a bit too late in the game to make a difference.

This Saturday The Luffs travel to Leicester to take on Highfield Rangers with a 3pm kick off, in the past this has always been a high scoring game but the Loughborough side would desperately settle for a narrow win.
