UHLSPORT UNITED COUNTIES PREMIER DIVISION NORTHAMPTON ON CHENECKS 1 SHEPSHED DYNAMO 1

SHEPSHED Dynamo came back from a first half deficit to salvage a point with a 1-1 draw away at Northampton ON Chenecks on Saturday.

The result looked good enough to keep them top of the Uhlsport United Counties Premier Division but two late goals from Rugby Town saw Shepshed drop to second in the table.

Northampton ON Chenecks took the lead in the first half with a Lewis Irwin strike and Dynamo replied early on in the second half through Reece Morris and despite having the majority of the play were unable to capitalise and had to settle for a point which on reflection and performance it was no more than Shepshed deserved.

In blustery conditions and with the wind at their backs it took Shepshed ten minutes before they had their first chance of the game Karl Whymark’s’ effort being saved by Jack Gibson.

It was Chenecks who were to come the closest in the early exchanges Irwin’s free kick rattling the Dynamo crossbar on 13 minutes.

Shepshed took a grip of the game for a short while John King finding Liam Hurst in the box on seventeen minutes but his effort went sailing over the Chenecks crossbar. Hurst was close again on 21 minutes but his effort was wide. It was then the turn of captain Jake Betts on 23 minutes but again Dynamo were unable to find the target.

So slightly against the run of play Northampton ON Chenecks took the lead on 26 minutes Johnson’s effort was saved by Matty White the rebound fell to Irwin who acrobatically returned ball back into the roof of the Dynamo goal.

David Hunt went close to doubling the hosts score two minutes later and Irwin was once again dangerous with a free kick on 36 minutes.

Shepshed ended the half strongly Hurst’s effort deflected wide on 42 minutes, Lewis White header from a corner headed wide a minute later and Hurts free kick was wide of the goal in injury time and for the second week running Shepshed were to go into the break behind.

Damian Beckford - Quailey made a double substitution at the break taking off Reiff Armstrong to bring on the returning Josh Egginton and Harry Wakefield for Lewis White.

With a more attacking formation it paid dividends three minutes into the half the ball fell to Morris who fired passed Gibson to level the scores.

Shepshed Dynamo score in their clash with Northampton ON Chenecks.

Shepshed were now in the ascendancy and going after all three points Wakefield shooting over on 49 minutes and three minutes later he was wide of the target.

King then found Matt Melbourne in the box but it seemed the tale of the afternoon as Dynamo were once again unable to hit the target. Whymark then also shot over on 49 minutes.

Irwin had been Northampton ON Chenecks main threat all afternoon and from another free kick on 56 minutes Matty White did well to tip his dead ball kick onto

the crossbar and over. This was to be the hosts only major threat of the half.

Into the last half hour and Shepshed pressed again Hurst’s free kick went over on 61 minutes and three minutes later Morris’s goalbound shot was blocked.

King cam close on 72 minutes. Niall Prenderville was also wide on 83 minutes and as the game went into injury time Gibson denied Wakefield.

Shepshed were unable to breach the Northampton ON Chenecks more than once and had to settle for a point.
