CHARNWOOD Drawing and Painting Club launches its 2020 programme with a bang on Tuesday, January 28, when it welcomes an acclaimed wildlife artist, Angela Gaughan to Loughborough to demonstrate pet portraiture.

The demonstration will show how to best capture wildlife in the most dramatic settings and how to render subjects closer to home effectively using mixed media.

Newly installed club chair, Paul Lockton, said: “This year we have an exceptional line up of demonstrations from some of the UK’s leading artists.

“For our opening presentation I am delighted to welcome someone with a fine pedigree who is sure to attract a great audience with her ideas and inspiration. The evening promises to be stimulating and thought provoking and will show us how to bring out the character of family pets.”

Angela Gaughan lives in Nottinghamshire but was born in Wales. She studied portrait painting with Andrew Vicari, a former student of the prestigious Slade School of Fine Art. Angela subsequently trained alongside Gareth Hawker. She has developed a unique style and techniques depicting wildlife in natural habitats, and her work with family pets has enjoyed great popularity.

So much so that Angela has many of her paintings in private collections all over the world including Italy, Germany and the US.

Angela was awarded the David Shepherd Award for the best work depicting an endangered species at the 25th anniversary exhibition for The Wildlife Art Society International in June 2017.

Charnwood Drawing and Painting Club will hold the event from 7pm9pm at Woodbrook Vale School, Grasmere Road, Loughborough, LE11 2ST.

The evening is expected to be exceptionally well attended, so visitors are advised to turn up early (without pets!) to bag a seat. Free parking is available in the school car park.

CDPC’s demonstrations are held on the fourth Tuesday most months. A small entry fee applies to demonstrations but refreshments and free parking are provided.

Visitors are warmly welcomed to club events and may pay on the door or reserve a place by emailing Paul Lockton at pnp.lockton@gmail.com
