Stoppage time goal denies Luffs their first point

-

LEICESTERSHIRE SENIOR LEAGUE DIVISION ONE HIGHFIELD RANGERS 1 LOUGHBOROUGH FC 0

SO NEAR and yet so far as The Luffs were in touching distance of their first point of the season going down to one offside goal five minutes into injury time.

The Loughborough side will look back on this game as one they should have won they were the better side for most of the game.

The Luffs should have taken the lead in the first half, Nicholas Ebede had his shot saved then minutes later hit the post.

It wasn’t easy playing football on an uneven pitch but the Loughborough side kept the pressure on the home side who rarely got out of their own half in the first period.

It was late in the half when Highfields began to show some attacking flair but they made little impression on a solid Loughborough defence with keeper Brandon Holgate making just a couple of routine saves.

In the second half the pitch cut up badly and it suited the style of the Highfields team and they got a foothold in the game but they couldn’t beat keeper Holgate who was in fine form with a few more good saves.

Loughborough’s Rida Koultouma combined well with his skipper Jack Godkin and they made good progress down the left flank. Koultouma did everything but score running rings round the Highfields defence only to see his final effort comeback off the post.

Jack Godkin had a free kick saved and Highfields had the ball in the net only to be ruled offside. Mayokun Okusanya dazzled the home defence with a mazy run but couldn’t quite finish it off as his effort was deflected for as corner.

Nobody knew where the five minuets injury time came from but they were there and in the 95th minute a clearly offside goal settled the issue.

This Saturday The Luffs take on Anstey Town at The Drome with a 2pm kick off.
