LOUGHBOROUGH CARILLON

MEN’S 1STS 14 COVENTRY AND NORTH WARWICKSHIRE 3RD XI 0

LOUGHBOROUGH Carillon 1sts continued their charge for promotion with a 14-0 demolition of Coventry and North Warwick.

Carillon showed a few changes from last week’s comprehensive win over Leicester City, with Tom Wood and Ruaidhri Maguire unavailable and Matt Middleton out injured the team were thankful to be able to welcome back Richard Elms and Tom Lawrie into the side after absence.

Carillon started on the front foot and almost scored straight from the push back. Steve Hunter and Steve Livingstone exchanging passes all the way into the Coventry circle but Hunter could not apply the finish to cap the move.

This was only a brief reprieve for Coventry with Tom Lawrie slamming the first short corner of the game into the backboards not long after. From this point goals came at regular intervals throughout the half with Hunter, who got a first half hattrick, Livingstone, James Whyte, James Young and Richard Elms all notching to bring the half time score to 9-0.

With the game over as a contest, the team were tasked with keeping focus and not allowing Coventry’s tricky forwards the opportunity to latch onto long balls out of the back and create opportunities.

The second half struggled to match the intensity of the first with the contest taking on the air of training game as Coventry sat deep to repel, the by now, constant Carillon attacks. This tactic largely worked as space was denied to the forwards making it difficocult for them to get away shots.

Carillon were still able to add to their total with Hayden Arrowsmith adding his name to the score sheet, with further goals for Whyte, Young, who also got a hat-trick, and Hunter who added two penalty strokes to bring his personal haul to five.

A solid win for Carillon then with everyone once again contributing to the success. Youngster Sam Beavon collected the man of the match award with an assured display in the left wing back position, creating opportunities and defending resolutely when required. Credit also should go to Coventry who continued to try and play throughout the game and defended with determination.

Carillon travel to Northampton next weekend looking to add another three points to their season’s total.
