A PUPIL who received a two-year scholarship from The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity has been awarded a place at King’s College Cambridge, becoming the first beneficiary of the charity’s programme to become an Oxbridge scholar.

Hebe Jackson, of Barrowhas been offered the opportunity to read modern and medieval languages at the prestigious university after obtaining excellent A level results at Ratcliffe College, achieving two A* grades and an additional A.

Hebe Jackson said: “Coming into Ratcliffe Sixth Form from a state school background, thanks to The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity scholarship, has really helped me achieve my potential and I have loved my time at Ratcliffe.

“I’m extremely grateful for the offer (from King’s College) and cannot wait to start the next chapter for my life.”

Lucy Womack, trustee at The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity who leads on the scholarship programme, added: “We’re incredibly proud of Hebe for what she has been able to accomplish at Ratcliffe

College and are so excited for her in the next stage of her education.

“Hebe’s story is a perfect example of why The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity provides scholarships. We’re committed to providing opportunities to young people to enable them to fulfil their potential. Not only has Hebe had the chance to study for two years at Ratcliffe; her success there has enabled her to become the programme’s first Oxbridge scholar.”

Previously a pupil at Barrow’s Humphrey Perkins School, Hebe received a full scholarship from The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity to enable her to study for two years at Ratcliffe College.

The scholarship programme provides opportunities to young people who wish to attend an independent school within the county for their sixth form education, with up to three scholarships available each year to cover the cost of tuition fees for the two years of study.

Pupils’ state schools apply directly to the independent school of the pupil’s choice to commence the scholarship application process.
