BURTON MEN’S

1ST XI 3 LOUGHBOROUGH

TOWN MEN’S 2ND XI 1 LOUGHBOROUGH Town 2nd XI travelled to Burton looking to make it three wins on the bounce and continue their unbeaten streak.

A slow start to the game for both sides saw no breakthrough until Bayne cut onto his reverse and fired the ball narrowly wide of the top corner.

Town continued their push for a goal as Gutteridge and Megicks caused the Burton defence problems all afternoon but clear opportunities were in short supply. Burton counter attacks began to cause Town trouble towards the end of the first half, though a solid performance from Ottewell and Lamb ensured Town got into halftime level.

The second half got off to a poor start for Loughborough as Burton pressed high and converted an early short corner.

Shortly after the home side made it 2-0, despite Town making significant improvements. Megicks went on a fantastic run into the box and put the ball past the keeper only for the whistle to go for a short. After a lengthy deliberation the goal was disallowed and Burton went down the other end to score a third and seemingly put the game beyond reach.

Late on, Chiswell put a tempting ball across goal into the D only to fall to Horfall who stopped the ball and finished from close range. Town had hopes of making a late comeback but It wasn’t to be as the game finished 3-1 to Burton.

Next week Loughborough host Streetly 1st XI, hoping for a more positive result.
