Loughborough Carillon hit double figures again

LOUGHBOROUGH CARILLON MENS 1XI 15

SUTTON COLDFIELD 7TH XI 0

CARILLON made light work of Sutton Coldfield on a stormy Saturday as they reached double figures for the seventh time this season.

A side with several absentees was stretched even further as Tayne Turnock was unable to make the game due to illness. This resulted in an 11 man squad for the game but due to deteriorating weather the chance to stay on the pitch and keep warm was greatly appreciated.

Sutton by contrast had brought a healthy squad with them but found themselves one down after only 20 seconds as Steve Hunter unleashed a rocket into the roof of the net.

The visitors did well to bounce back after that early set back and attempted to break out themselves but the Carillon defence were up to the task and kept them scoreless. Carillon were then awarded a flick for a body on the line which Hunter converted for his second.

James Young then rattled the backboard, pinching the ball on the halfway line, out sprinting the defence and slamming the shot in the bottom corner. Tom Wood also managed a goal before the half finished while Hunter had scored twice more to bring his total to four.

The second half began in atrocious conditions which made free flowing hockey difficult. Despite this Carillon continued to dominate against an increasingly frustrated Sutton side.

The Sutton keeper, who had a good game, was beaten a further nine times. Hunter grabbed a further goal to finish on five for the match and send him top of the overall goal scoring charts. Wood,

Young and Tom Lawrie all scored further goals to get themselves braces.

The goal of the game, went to Lawrie who finished well after picking an aerial into the D on the reverse before volleying it into the top corner.

Youngster Alex Carter grabbed himself an impressive second half hat-trick, completed by tapping a Richard Elms shot in mere inches from the line giving Elms a taste of his own medicine after a similar incident last week.

Man of the match went to Tom Lawrie who looked like he had never been away.
