First trust-wide careers event held for three schools
LIONHEART Academies Trust in Leicestershire has held the first trust-wide careers event for its north Leicestershire schools - The Cedars Academy in Birstall, Martin High School in Anstey and Humphrey Perkins School in Loughborough.
Year 10 students took part in business, public service and university panels, hearing from organisations such as the NHS, Next PLC, Leicester Fire and Rescue Service and a host of local universities.
Among these attendees was Detective Andrew Spence of Leicestershire Police, having spent nearly 20 years in the line of duty. Spence discussed his work in the field, as well as entry routes and opportunities into detective and police work.
The students also explored a Careers Fair with more than 25 guest organisations.
Sarah Strowger, in attendance with the NHS, said: “All students were extremely engaged and polite, even those who were unsure about their next steps. I even learnt something – I had no idea that we offered drama therapy until a young drama enthusiast let me know!”
CEO of the Lionheart Trust, Kath Kelly, said: “Events like these are a fantastic opportunity to bring our schools together; seeing all of our students united in their passion for their futures. For us, it’s essential to convey the message that anything is possible with hard work, no matter your circumstantial differences.
“It’s also wonderful to see so many businesses and organisations invested in helping young people to kick-start their futures.
“Their interest and belief in our students as individuals is vital to their self-confidence. They’re passing on the baton to tomorrow’s workforce.”
