Town business steps in to help The Carillon Memorial Trust

-

LARGE cabinets from Loughborough’s Carillon Tower have been removed thanks to a local firm.

Loughborough based CR Civil Engineering Ltd offered to remove the cabinets for free after The Carillon Memorial Trust reached out to local businesses to help.

Last month it was revealed the museum would reopen during the Easter school holidays in April after The Carillon Memorial Trust had been told its bid for £80,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund had been unsuccessful.

Charnwood Borough Council is supporting the trust with their new funding application which will help to improve the overall visitor experience.

Mel Gould, chairman of the Loughborough Carillon Tower and War Memorial Museum said: “We are really grateful to the team at CR Civil Engineering Ltd for their help and support in removing the old and very large cabinets, but especially to the three employees who did the physical work with such enthusiasm.”

Coun Jenny Bokor, the council’s lead member for Loughborough said: “I’d like to say a big thank you to CR Civils for helping the trust with removing the cabinets.”

Carl Roberts, managing director of CR Civil Engineering Ltd said: “CR Civil Engineering Ltd are flattered to be invited to give something back to the area. As a business we fully understand the importance of our corporate social responsibility and since locating to Loughborough in 2013 we have been happy to assist with projects in the local community.

“We’re thankful to the community giving us these opportunities which have contributed and enabled CR Civil Engineering to win awards such as the Midlands Employer of the Year and Considerate Contractors.”

The Loughborough Carillon is a grade two listed building and was built after the First World War to commemorate the men of Loughborough who gave their lives for their country. It carries the names of 800 men who died in both world wars and other conflicts. Construction was completed in 1923 and is 150ft high.

The museum will reopen during the Easter school holidays in April and monthly recitals will continue to take place on the first Thursday of the month at 1pm.
