SHEPSHED Dolphins Swimming Group (SDSG) is celebrating after receiving two cash boosts totalling more than £6,000

The group, based at Iveshead Community Swimming Pool, is a swimming group with a difference – members consist of individuals with a disability or longterm health condition as well as those recovering from injury or illness. Families and friends are also welcome.

Now it is celebrating a grant of £3,500 from the Wesleyan and Leicester and Rutland Community foundation and £2,880 from the Henry Smith Charity.

SDSG administrator Nicola Crowe said: “Our group has been part funded by the Wesleyan Foundation this year which we are really pleased about. It means with the help from the Leicester and Rutland Community Foundation we can continue to run the sessions for our members.

“We have also received a grant from The Henry Smith Charity to be able to continue providing the Aqua Fit sessions for the next two years – included in the weekly swim fee of £2.50 per adult or £1 for under 18’s.

“Having the extra funding for the Aqua class for the next two years is incredible and we are so pleased that it can continue without having to charge swimmers extra for the class. It is such a popular class and the pool is quiet when it is not running.

“We offer lane swimming, Aqua fit and free time every Saturday morning at Iveshead Community Swimming Pool in Shepshed. We have swim aids, lots of floats and pool toys. We run from 10.30am–12.30pm , Aqua Fit is on at 11.15am.

“There are no membership fees to pay, just the swim fee for each session. The sessions are run by volunteers and qualified life guards.”
