How to bring a landmark building into glorious life
IF YOU have a soft spot for heritage and characterful old houses, then visiting Charnwood Drawing and Painting Club on Tuesday, March 24, could give you the inspiration to take up painting.
One of the Midlands’ best architectural painters, Phil Biggs, will demonstrate how to bring to life in glorious colour one of our most treasured National Trust buildings.
The demonstration will show artists of all abilities how to best capture architectural landscapes in traditional watercolour, with a whole host of tips on the use of light and tone to create atmosphere and realism.
Club chair, Paul Lockton, said: “We very much look forward to welcoming back Phil to the club and to his straight-forward and easy to understand style of presentation that we can all learn a lot from. I am especially pleased that his subject will be the glorious Belton House.”
“My influences are definitely Turner and the old masters, especially De Wint, who mastered tone in water colour. I love to paint wonderful British landscapes, and in Tuesday’s demonstration I will pass on to others my enthusiasm and knowledge to help them succeed,” said Phil.
Charnwood Drawing and Painting Club will hold the event from 7pm-9pm at Woodbrook Vale School, Grasmere Road, Loughborough, LE11 2ST.
A full auditorium is anticipated so visitors are advised to turn up early to avoid disappointment, said Paul.
CDPC’s demonstrations are held on the fourth Tuesday of most months. A small entry fee applies to demonstrations and to refreshments but free parking is provided.
Visitors are welcome to all club events and can pay on the door, or by reserving a place by emailing Paul at pnp.lockton@gmail.com.
Further details about the Club’s activities including its regular painting sessions held at Gorse Covert, Woodhouse Eaves, and Barrow-upon-Soar as well as the weekly Walk and Draw events can be found at www.charnwooddrawingpaintingclub.
