Warriors are victorious

-

CHARNWOOD Rutland Netball Club (Warriors) took to the court for their second to last game of the season against Eclipse, in the national premier league.

With promotion already secured, Warriors were looking to stamp their authority on the league by winning their final two matches. Both teams fought really hard until the final whistle but Warriors came out victorious with a score of 57-47, despite only having a seven-player squad, as opposed to the usual 12.

In the first quarter, Warriors got off to a great start by putting defensive pressure on Eclipse allowing pleanty of turnover to be created for the attack to capitalise on. Quarter time score saw a narrow 13-12 lead to Warriors.

During the second quarter both attacking ends worked tirelessly to score off their centre passes with the defence making it very difficult for both teams. The pressure resulted in a very tight half time score at 26-24, to Warriors.

In the third quarter, Warriors stepped up a gear and continued to increase their score, gaining a gap of 9 goals with some outstanding defence and turning over balls. However Eclipse did not give up, with some great play throughout the court, constantly continuing to challenge for ball, with the score being 43-34 to Warriors heading into the final 15 minutes. In the final quarter both teams continued to work hard and fight despite the nine-goal gap. Warriors’ ability to stay calm and resilient allowed them to remain composed and determined to get the win 57-47.

Warriors final match of the season is at Brooksby Melton College against Thoroughbreds.
