Impressive win for Shepshed Dynamo

-

UHLSPORT UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION BOSTON TOWN 0 SHEPSHED DYNAMO 4 SHEPSHED Dynamo completed a comprehensive 4-0 victory away at Boston Town on Saturday.

The result leaves them four points behind local rivals Quorn at the top of the Uhlsport United Counties League Premier Division with five games in hand.

But with the news received from the Uhlsport United Counties League while editing this report, this may be insignificant as all league games have now been suspended until further notice.

There was an own goal early on followed by a Niall Prenderville header and a Karl Whymark penalty in the last 15 minutes of the half. A further penalty from Whymark added the fourth and fair play to Travis Portas in the Boston goal the deficit could have been a lot heavier.

Shepshed got off to the perfect start on a tricky playing surface Liam Hurst turning well and advancing down the left finding Reece Morris who beat his marker and moved into the area he slotted the ball underneath Portas in the Town goal and the Boston defender on the line could only turn the ball into the empty net to give Dynamo the lead in the fourth minute. With the goal being accredited to Morris.

A minute later Hurst was unlucky not to double Shepshed’s score with his effort just wide.

Boston then came into the game with Matty White doing well to clear Fraser Bayliss’s goal-bound effort off the line on six minutes and Luke White’s free kick was straight at Matty White on nine minutes.

Shepshed took control of the game Hurst’s free kick over the top on 13 minutes and John King finding Hurst again on 18 minutes with Portas forcing the corner.

Josh Mundell holding the forward line on his own with Matt Melbourne and Shay Brennan both unavailable due to injury was threatening pulling off the left back and turning in. On 29 minutes his cross was met by Hurst but Portas was again on hand to save for Boston.

Reece Morris then shot at the Boston goal but Portas was in fine form, turning it wide for a corner. From the corner Shepshed doubled their lead Hurst’s corner was met by a powerful header by Niall Prenderville which nestled into the roof of the Boston goal.

Boston’s rare foray into the Dynamo danger area saw White fire off target on 34 minutes.

But Shepshed were always menacing going forward. Jordan Wakeling breaking into the Boston area only for his shot to go straight into Portas on 35 minutes. A minute later Shepshed were three up. Jake Betts’s trailing was caught by Ollie Pinner and with no hesitation the referee pointed to the penalty spot.

Before the break Boston nearly reduced the arrears Matty White tipping Lee Beeson’s free kick round the post on 41 minutes.

Shepshed dominated the second half with the hosts finding it hard to get out of their own area.

Whymark’s free kick was straight at Portas on 50 minutes.

Whymark made it four on 57 minutes. King turned passed Patrick Muirhead on the byline and was dragged down both the referee and his assistant in agreement gave a penalty which Whymark duly converted for the second time on the afternoon.

Portas’s goal mouth from their onwards was the centre of attention a fine double save from him on 66 minutes form Mundell.

On 78 minutes it was the turn of King to have his effort saved by Portas. Then five minutes later he saved from substitute Sam Moore followed by another double save from substitute and new signing Spencer Weir - Daly and from the rebound Mundell.

Shepshed continued to press on 89 minutes, Prenderville just heading wide with the goal at his mercy.

The final chance of the half fell to the hosts with Robert Raducan off target.

A truly dominant performance by Shepshed Dynamo and for the heroics of Travis Portas the scoreline could have been much greater.

With the immediate suspension of all United Counties League games this may be the last report for a while as we wait further instruction from the league as to when Shepshed are able to play again.
