Pupils set up own beeswax company

-

LOUGHBOROUGH Amherst Schools’ Young Enterprise team has formed its own company; Oly, which produces and sells beeswax wraps.

The youngsters set up the company through the Young Enterprise scheme, which not only helps students with developing new skills, but also provides them with the opportunity to do something which could have a positive effect on people or our environment.

A spokesperson for the team told the Echo: “Young Enterprise has helped us to improve our company by giving us the opportunity to take part in competitions where we get personal feedback from the judges on how we can improve, but also go head to head with other Young Enterprise companies in our region.

“One competition that we took part in was ‘Foxes Lair’ - We came second.

“We were also recently involved in another competition, which was The Young Enterprise showcase, where we won three awards: Marketing, Best Presentation and Sustainability award, we are also through to the next round.

“As a team, we feel as though Young Enterprise has helped us get a sense of what running a business is really like. They have done this by offering workshops and seminars with real entrepreneurs, which is both inspiring and innovative.

“Their aim is: ‘We work directly with young people, teachers, and businesses to help build a successful and sustainable future for all young people.

“Through our employability and financial education programmes and resources, we want to help young people realise their potential’.

“Our company ,Oly, produces and sells Beeswax wraps.

“We use 100 per cent organic locally sourced beeswax which is both hygienic and environmentally friendly.

“As a team, we are very passionate about the environment so we designed this product fitting both our needs and the needs of our customers which is also a great way to combat single use plastic.

“We hope as a team, that if we get more people to buy our beeswax wraps, fewer people will use cling film or other types of single use plastic which is very harmful to our environment.

“One of our main aims is to help encourage people to change their viewpoint on organic recycled alternatives and educate others in ways in which they can help our environment.
