Application for huge warehouse at Rowena Park

- ROBIN JOHNSON

A COMPANY which imports and distributes floristry, party, event decor and horticultural products has applied to build a huge new warehouse in Rothley.

APAC Group has applied to Charnwood Borough Council to construct the 90,000 sq ft building close to its existing base at Rowena Park, in Loughborough Road.

According to the plans, the scheme would include spaces for 74 cars and 21 HGVs.

Founded in the 1970s, APAC’s product range covers more than 10,000 lines sourced from all over the world.

Its products are stocked by some of the UK’s largest retailers, including supermarket chains such as Tesco, ASDA, Morrisons, Wilkinsons, Aldi and large multiple retailers such as Marks and Spencer, Hobbycraft and The Range.

It is also a major supplier to the florist wholesale, party wholesale and wedding trades, as well as supplying garden centres, nurseries and growers.

In planning documents submitted to the borough council, Stephen George and Partners, writing on behalf of APAC, said: “The proposed development has been carefully assessed and designed having regard to the constraints and opportunities of the site, as well as the ‘brief’ of the occupying business: APAC Retail.

“A full account of the planning background has been undertaken, and the proposed development is consistent with the previously approved and now constructed schemes within the site.

“The development therefore provides a high-quality designed scheme, which will enable an important economic investment to be delivered on the Rowena Park site.”
