Rothley Co-op’s special donation to NHS heroes

-

THE Rothley Co-op food store has made a special donation of items to support NHS heroes at nearby hospitals.

The team at Central England Co-op in Rothley spotted a post on social media from a local healthcare worker who was looking for donations of toiletries to be used by those frontline carers should they need to stay overnight as they work around the clock during the Coronavirus outbreak.

The Loughborough Road store jumped at the chance to help and put together a hamper of items including hand creams, shampoos, shower gels and a few sweet treats as well, which has now been donated to NHS heroes at both Leicester Royal Infirmary and Leicester General Hospital.

Store manager Stacey Newson said: “When I saw the post I thought it was a great cause and something we could help with. We are so grateful for the work the NHS are doing and this seemed like a lovely way to show our support.

“We put together a selection of useful items which the hospital workers needing to stay overnight can use, as well as a few bags of chocolates and cakes to keep them going.

“Everyone is trying to help each other out and the person who posted looking for the donations shops with us so it is nice to keep it local and support the people in our community which we are proud to serve.”

Central England Co-op has announced a 10 per cent discount for all NHS workers to say thank you for their efforts working on the frontline to help tackle the Coronavirus.

All NHS workers have to do is show their ID card when they visit any of the retailer’s 242 food stores to receive 10% off all food and other essentials.

They will also be able to get priority access to Central England Co-op stores by moving to the front of any external queue when waiting to enter.
