NORMANTON ON SOAR ENVIRONMENT GROUP. The village has set up an environment group inspired by our community and local wildlife. Established to support existing spaces for nature, create new habitats and complete small tasks around the village.

There are lots of different ways to be part of the group! Some of our initial efforts include working with the parish council to form trial areas where we will be sowing native plants and creating natural habitats.

Look out for upcoming information signs and blue heart-shaped markers that are part of our long-term goal to link up public spaces and gardens throughout the village for wildlife.

With a strong team of brilliant volunteers, work had begun creating the trial areas but unfortunately the covid-19 crisis has meant that we have not been able to do as much as expected.

Though the early works on the slipway by The Plough pub are nearly complete, preparations for the corners of the Jubilee Field are taking a little longer and these may not be seeded until autumn.

We will be putting out monthly local wildlife newsletters for everyone interested that will include photographs, stories and ways to engage with the plants and animals that we share our village with.

If you would like to receive these updates, or to get in touch, please email nos. environment@gmail.com.

PARISH LINES MAY ISSUE SUSPENSION. The printers used by Parish Lines magazine have temporarily suspended trade under the current Covid19 containment measures.

Sadly this means that the

May issue of Parish Lines won’t be going ahead. Please see the May/June issue of Village News and Brian Archbold’s weekly ‘In Touch’ emails from St James Church for news from Normanton on Soar.

ST JAMES’ CHURCH TEMPORARILY CLOSED. You may have heard that all church buildings have been closed until further notice. Whilst I can understand the rationale, it’s a great shame as our church is being visited regularly for private reflection.

However, so that you know that we will be thinking of you and the wider community, there will be lights in the east window of the church every evening. You may wish to visit our churchyard for quiet prayer, but please keep at least two metres apart from others who may be doing the same.

Stuart and Sarah are keeping the churchyard as tidy and welcoming as ever.

We did have a book in the porch for prayer requests but I’m afraid that we can’t do that now in case using the book passes on the virus.

Instead, if you would like prayers said for anyone, please contact Brian Archbold (842341.)

Our friends at St Mary’s Church, East Leake will continue live streaming their services at 10am and 6pm on Sundays.
