Korea’s face masks for veterans
THE Republic of Korea have donated 40,000 face masks to UK Korean War veterans to protect them from the Covid-19 Pandemic.
They are being posted out in May to veterans and bereaved families throughout the UK.
The Korean War Commemoration Committee have sent over one million face masks worldwide to veterans of all the nations who participated in the conflict.
This year marks the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of the war and this gesture is made in profound appreciation of the valuable and significant contribution made by the UK in Korea’s fight for freedom against the communist invasion in 1950.
Britain answered the request for assistance by the United Nations and provided over 81,000 personnel from all branches of the armed forces over the period of the war.
This was the second largest contingent of the 22 nations involved in the war, the USA being the largest provider.
The Korean Embassy have organised the campaign in the UK and the ambassador to the UK Ms Enna Park had written earlier to all veterans across the country with a message of solidarity during these challenging times and regretted that these unfortunate circumstances have curtailed commemorative events planned for this year.
The Korean Government and the population in general are unique in the respect and generosity shown over such a prolonged period to all who came to their aid during their three year fight for freedom. Their sacrifice and contribution have never been forgotten.
