Kylie’s appeal for people to ‘Dance for Tom’

-

A SHEPSHED woman has set up a novel way of fund-raising to try and raise £20,000 to help pay for potentially life-saving treatment for her best friend.

In July 2019, Tom Douthwaite was diagnosed with advance bile duct cancer having spread across his liver.

His only symptom was a pain in his side and after lots of negative tests, he receive the shocking news and was given a life expectancy of 6-9 months. His son was six-months old at the time.

A recent scan showed that the cancer was stable but chemotherapy was not shrinking the tumours.

A cancer treatment known as SIRT may be able to help Tom, who lives in Long Eaton, but it is not routinely funded on the NHS.

When she heard the news, his friend

Kylie Winkless said she felt she couldn’t just sit there and do nothing, so came up with the Dance for Tom initiative.

And her cousin, the singer songwriter, Mason Bailey, has donated one of his songs to the cause.

She said: “Tom and I have been friends since school. He is always pushing himself, he trained for the RAF and recently qualified and took a job as HGV driver but now he can’t work.

“He is funny, sarcastic and loves music which is why I thought of Dance for Tom.

“We are asking people to dance to one of my cousin’s songs called Beautiful to Me, we would like people to dance with their children, loved ones, pets etc, to hold them tight and show us how much you cherish them and how important our family are.

“Tom has a child, he wants to watch grow, he wants to see his first day at school, gradation, wedding. Please let’s try and make this happen.”
