More people invited to find out about fostering

-

A NEW fostering campaign was launched by Leicestershire County Council during Foster Care Fortnight.

The 30-second video, which will be shown on Sky TV channels to county residents, is voiced by one of Leicestershire’s children in care and details some of the key recipe ingredients to make a good foster carer.

These include a “tablespoon of kindness, a sprinkling of fun and a handful of love”.

There are more than 600 children in care in Leicestershire and the council hopes that the advert will inspire more people to come forward and find out about fostering.

Coun Ivan Ould, cabinet member for children and families, said: “We want to remind people during Foster Care Fortnight that it’s the little things that are so vitally needed by children in care. Lots of people, from all walks of life, make great foster carers and our advert emphasises just that.

“You don’t have to be an expert to be a foster parent, just a loving, caring person. I would encourage anyone curious about fostering to watch the video and get in touch to find out more.”

The council’s foster carers receive generous allowances and regular placements, as well as access to local training and 24/7 support. Applicants must be over 21 and have a spare bedroom.
