Schools Foundation reveals proposals to tackle any racism issues
OFFICIALS at the Loughborough Schools Foundation have unveiled a series of measures being considered in the light of racism allegations by students.
It follows last week’s statement by the executive committee of Loughborough Schools Foundation (which includes Loughborough Grammar School, Loughborough High School, Loughborough Amherst School and Fairfield Prep School) published on Facebook which apologised for any racial incident that may have happened at the schools.
This week a spokesperson told the Echo: “The Loughborough Schools Foundation offers an unreserved apology to anyone who has suffered from racism.
“There are no excuses. Racism has no place in this Foundation. We are sorry that we have fallen short of our aims and we will strive for better.
“Whenever anything is reported to us, we undertake robust and decisive action.
“We are working with the police, as well as examining our own internal procedures to ensure pupils feel safe, respected, and valued at all of our schools.
“In addition to this we are listening and asking for ideas and suggestions as to how we can improve and change. Parents and pupils (past and present) have contacted us with suggestions and these will be discussed at a meeting of our Board within the next two weeks.
“Some of the actions that we are currently considering include:
• How we further develop discussion and consideration of racism and discrimination in our curricula, in an age appropriate way.
• How we further strengthen and develop our pastoral and welfare provision for BAME pupils.
• Looking again at how we
might encourage strong applications for employment from the BAME community, in our staff and our governing body.
• Reviewing and improving our
training for staff on promoting diversity and the elimination of unconscious bias.
“The Foundation offers its reassurances to all our current and future pupils and parents that we will learn important lessons from what has been brought to our attention.”
