Back in business
LOUGHBOROUGH’S town centre was back in business this week as a number of shops re-opened after the Government further eased lockdown regulations.
Eager shoppers were queuing in the Market Place and The Rushes ready for any bargains that maybe on offer.
Lez Cope-Newman, the chair of Love Loughborough BID, which helps look after the interests of 600 businesses in the centre of town, told the Echo: “The town is slowly and orderly opening up for business.
“Charnwood Borough Council and Love Loughborough have town centre helpers to give out info and advice to customers and the businesses themselves.
“I’m delighted to be working with both with the borough council, the businesses and both shopping centre management to make sure our much needed customers get a safe and pleasant experience.”
Social distancing measures have been put in place by Charnwood Borough Council with the authority sending out the message: “We’re working with local businesses, Love Loughborough, other partners including town and parish councils. We also have staff out and about – our High Street Helpers – to monitor the situation and assist people.”
The Local Resilience Forum (LRF) for Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, a multi-agency partnership made up of representatives from local public services, including the emergency services, local authorities, the NHS and others also sent out a safety message to shoppers
“Councils in Leicestershire and Rutland have all been working with local businesses, partners and the NHS to ensure high streets are safe places for customers, traders, staff and visitors.
“People in Leicestershire and Rutland are also being reminded to continue washing their hands frequently and that they should wear a face covering in enclosed public spaces where social distancing isn’t possible and where you will come into contact with people you do not normally meet.
“From June 15, people must wear a face covering on public transport.”
