CHARITIES have received a financial boost to help them deliver vital projects to support over 2,500 vulnerable people in Leicestershire thanks to SEGRO’s Centenary Fund, just one month after its initial launch.

SEGRO, a owner, manager and developer of warehousing and industrial space inluding the Logistics Park East Midlands Gateway at Castle Donington, launched the fund to mark its 100th anniversary.

The fund will see £10m awarded to local community projects in the UK and Continental Europe over the next decade.

Its launch was brought forward and the plans revised to enable the majority for the first year’s funding to provide urgent support to members of the community who are particularly vulnerable to the impacts of COVID-19.

SEGRO has partnered with the Leicestershire and Rutland Community Foundation to identify charities which are providing immediate and meaningful support projects to those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic where SEGRO has a presence.

Five charities have been allocated funding so far, including:

• National Forest Responders – Funding of two kits for trained medics supporting East Midlands Ambulance Service

• Hospice Hope – Collection of prescriptions and shopping for users unable to receive visits from their usual carers

• Castle Donington Volunteer Centre – Provision of a telephone befriending service and delivery of hot cooked meals for those in need.

The emphasis of the Centenary Fund moving forward will focus on local community projects which help and inspire disadvantaged people into education, training and employment. Charities and community organisations in Leicestershire which are interested in accessing the fund to deliver projects that fit this criteria are encouraged to visit https://www.llrcommunityfoundation. / to find out more details about how to apply.

David Sleath, chief executive officer of SEGRO, said: “When we launched the Centenary Fund last month our priority was to address the immediate needs of people disproportionality affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“In only a few short weeks, with the help of the Leicestershire and Rutland Community Foundation, we’re proud to have been able to identify and offer funding to five charities, and perhaps more importantly make a real difference to the lives of thousands of vulnerable people in Leicestershire during these unprecedented times.”

Katy Green, chief executive of Leicestershire and Rutland Community Foundation, said: “SEGRO is giving grants that are making a real difference in the north and northwest areas of Leicestershire. We, and the communities and groups we work for and behalf of, are really thankful for SEGRO’s forward thinking and responsive approach.”

The Centenary Fund builds on SEGRO’s long-standing and well-established approach to community engagement and support, representing a ten-year commitment to help improve the lives of tens of thousands of people in the communities where SEGRO operates.
