OFFICIALS at Steps have launched an appeal to raise £10,000 to help it through the coronavirus crisis.

The Aviva community fund appeal has been created to help pay the salaries of staff team members.

A statement on the charity’s website said: “We have found ourselves sailing in unchartered waters through unprecedented times due to Covid-19 and we have had to sadly close our doors to families during the pandemic.

“The families who attend Steps are reliant on our service so it was never an option to close down our service.

“We have had to completely change the way we work and develop a bespoke package of online resources for the children and families so we can continue our essential work.

“This includes support videos, written guidance and we are now running regular online Zoom group sessions.

“We have realised the benefits of offering our service in this way are immense and we wish to continue to offer a flexible service in the future so that families have a choice of bringing their child to Steps or staying at home and joining a live streamed session.

“We shall open our doors again at Steps and this is where this funding will really help us.

“The money that we raise will help support the salaries of our much loved and respected staff team members.

“Without our team of highly qualified professionals Steps just wouldn’t be the Steps families know and trust to help support their child.

“This year our charity has lost extensive, much needed funding from the publics fundraising initiatives and this money will help us to remain a viable service for the people who need it most.”
