East Midlands Airport welcomes back flights
New safety measures in place to protect people
THE first passenger flight to East Midlands Airport landed from Alicante on Monday, June 22, with new safety measures in place to guard the people on board against coronavirus.
Currently, only a limited schedule of flights is operating from the airport and everyone passing through is having to wear facemasks and stick to new guidance, NottinghamshireLive reports.
East Midlands Airport police shared a picture from inside the airport showing an officer wearing a mask, standing next to a sign reminding passengers about the new safety procedures.
The force tweeted: “Today heralds the resumption of flight operations at East Midlands Airport.
“Staff and passengers alike should wear a facemask at all times, wash hands regularly, adhere to social distancing and please not travel if you have or suspect you may have Covid symptoms. “
However, anyone returning to the UK from overseas must quarantine for 14 days and the current Foreign Office advice remains against non-essential travel.
A spokesman for the airport said: “If a review of these measures in late June results in an easing of restrictions, passenger airlines operating out of EMA are keen to resume fuller schedules in July.”
Due to the ongoing coronvirus pandemic, anyone flying through East Midlands in the coming weeks and months will need to adhere to this new guidance:
• People displaying symptoms of
Covid-19 (high temperature, persistent cough, loss of taste or smell) should not fly.
• Passengers should check the flight
status before they leave home as some schedules are still subject to change.
• Only those who are flying will be
allowed inside the terminal building.
• Face coverings must be applied
before entering the terminal.
• Plenty of time must be allowed for
check-in and security which may take longer than normal.
• Passengers should check the latest
government travel advice and any requirements for returning passengers to quarantine or complete relevant documentation.
