War museum asking for your help to identify veteran

-

THE Loughborough Carillon Tower & War Memorial Museum is trying to identify the gentleman in the attached photograph, we believe it may be associated with an object or objects in our collection but until we know his identity we cannot make the connection.

We appealed on social media and from the response we know he was in the Leicestershire Regiment and that he was a Territorial Soldier (he is wearing the TA Efficiency medal)

We believe the setting is Norway, from the trees in the background and the dress of the others in the photograph, he has a Leicesters’ regimental plaque in front of him so we can assume it is some sort of ceremony.

The 1/5th Battalion of the Leicestershire Regt in Word War Two was a TA battalion with its HQ in Loughborough and took part in the disastrous Norway campaign and over the years Norway have hosted many events to commemorate the events in WW2.

If he was in the TA and in Norway there is a good chance he was a local man and we hope one of your readers will hopefully recognise him.
