- By Amy Orton

THESE are the Charnwood schools have had to close because of the Leicester lockdown.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock said that schools would close after a coronavirus outbreak in the city – those within the boundaries have also been told that they must close to all pupils but key workers’ children by July

2.

The schools listed below are expected to close until the start of the new term in the autumn when the Government plans to have all pupils back in the classroom.

The local schools affected are:

• Bishop Ellis Catholic

Primary School, Thurmaston

• Church Hill Church of

England Junior School, Thurmaston

• Church Hill Infant

School, Thurmaston

• Eastfield Primary

School, Thurmaston

• Hallam Fields, Birstall

• Highcliffe Primary

School and Community

Centre, Birstall

• Riverside Community Primary School, Birstall

• The Cedars Academy, Birstall

• The Roundhill

Academy, Thurmaston.

Mr Hancock’s comments in the House of Commons about children being ‘badly affected’ caused concern.

He said: “Having taken clinical advice on the actions necessary, and discussed them with the local team in Leicester and Leicestershire, we have made some difficult but important decisions.

“As children have been particularly impacted by this outbreak, schools will also need to close, staying open for vulnerable children and children of critical workers as they did throughout.”
