A CARE WORKER at a Shepshed residential home is hoping pedal power will provide a welcome boost to residents when the lockdown comes to an end.

Amy Bond is to embark on a 100 mile bike ride over three days around Leicestershire and Derbyshire and has launched a gofundme page to raise money for the activities fund at the Marwood Residential Home in Shepshed.

She said: “The name’s Bond, Amy Bond! I work in a small residential home and I’m very passionate about my work; I really put my all into my job and I feel like we are a family at Marwood.

“We have been in lockdown for three months so far and the residents can’t have any visitors and are feeling a little bit down at the moment. I would like to share the love and have decided to do a 100mile bike ride - I will be starting out on July 14, ending on July 16 at Marwood.

“Money raised will towards the residents’ fund so we can have lots of lovely days out when we are able to. Please donate what you can.”

The home’s activities co-ordinator Claire Monk said it was a great gesture by Amy and all the residents and staff were right behind her.

“Because of the pandemic we haven’t been able to hold fund-raising events that we would normally do so Amy took it on herself to do this ride to help. She’s very self motivated and generous and it’s amazing what she is doing.

“The money raised is going to the residents’ activities fund and they have all said that they are looking forward to a day trip to the seaside so I think that might be one of the first trips we arrange when lockdown eases and it is safe for us to organise!”

Amy’s initial target was to raise £500 and within a matter of days that total was surpassed and then the £1,000 milestone was also broken so now the revised target is £1,500.
