Work of carers is praised by the NHS for Carers Week
THE NHS in Leicestershire has celebrated the role of carers as part of National Carers Week, particularly for their outstanding contribution during the coronavirus pandemic.
This year’s theme for the national awareness initiative was ‘Make Caring Visible’ and the week highlighted the important work of carers in the community. Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland’s Clinical Commissioning Groups (LLR CCGs) are supporting this important campaign.
Andy Williams, chief executive for LLR CCGs said: “Unpaid carers continue to play an essential role in our communities and more so, during the Covid-19 outbreak. They have been working on the frontline looking after some of our most vulnerable individuals and protecting the NHS. Looking after vulnerable people is something that should be valued more than ever during these challenging times.”
The onset of the coronavirus outbreak means that this year, people across LLR are continuing to face new challenges. Many are taking on more responsibilities than usual, looking after their relatives and friends who are disabled, ill or older and who need support.
Anyone wanting to register as a carer can do so by getting in contact with their GP surgery.
