Diamond wedding celebration for couple

-

COLIN and Jacqueline Grant are celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary.

Many Echo readers will remember Colin and Jacqueline who ran their newsagents shop in Barrow-upon -Soar.

In 1945, aged 10, Colin moved from Scraptoft, Leicester to Barrowuponto live at the newsagents shop.

Jacqueline was born in one of the Church Street cottages backing onto the Holy Trinity Church garden.

Although she grew up in Shepshed she would visit relatives in Barrow which is when she met Colin at a party at 35 Beveridge Street.

In the late 1950s Colin gave up his job at Driver’s Factory to run the newsagents for his father.

The couple went on to buy the property and business from Colin’s parents.

They were married on July 17, 1960 at 12.30pm at St Botolph’s Church, Shepshed.

By the time they retired in 2004 they had managed the newsagents for 45 years, Colin was 69, Jacqueline 65.

They say that celebrating their diamond wedding brings many fond memories of the village and the people they met along the way.
