Shepshed Litter Pickers are back tidying the community

-

WITH lockdown restrictions easing Gill Moore and her team of Shepshed Litter Pickers are back out as a group doing their bit to tidy up areas of the town.

Gill started her community litter picks back in February 2019 and since then a Facebook group she created has 62 members with 18 members regularly taking part in the clear-ups.

She said the response and support for the group had been really positive and she also paid tribute to the help provided by Julie-Anne Bryne at Charnwood Borough Council who arranges with Serco to collect the rubbish collected during the litter picks and provides the bin bags used by volunteers.

“The local community has given the group money and equipment and we have also had High Visibility Vests sponsored by Hallcroft Opticians.

“Shepshed Lions are sponsoring some safety signs and Shepshed Town Council has given me a grant that will allow me to buy a trolley and some more equipment.

“We are working hard to clear the area after a long break. In July we collected more than 100 bags of rubbish! We also keep in touch with the other Leicestershire Groups, the South Leicestershire Litter Wombles and the North Leicestershire Wombles.”

As well as tidying up the town, the group is also boosting the efforts of the ‘Helipads for Hospital’ charity by depositing any aluminium cans picked up into the charity’s big red can bin at Glenmore Park.

• If anyone wants to get involved in future litter picks or has cans or bags to donate, they can join the Shepshed Litter Pickers on Facebook to find out more or contact Gill by email at gill867@hotmail.com
