Guided walks back on this week

-

ACTIVE Charnwood are reintroducing their guided walks this week, with changes in place to allow the group to adhere to current Government guidelines and minimise the risks to walkers and walk leaders.

Differences include all places on the walks are for pre-booking only. This is to ensure the group size doesn’t exceed the Government guidelines and leaders have the necessary details in case of the need to support a test and trace process. Anyone turning up to a walk who has not pre-booked will be turned away.

Walks lined up for this week are:

August 13: 10am, ‘Hathern and the Soar’, led by Martin Luck. Meet at Gorse Covert Community Centre, Maxwell Drive, Loughborough, LE11 4RZ. Congregate on the grassed area alongside Black Brook little way from the entrance. Walk duration 3.5hrs / 9 miles. It’s a circular walk on footpaths, towpaths and quiet roads. Mostly level terrain with some moderate hills. Multiple stiles and gates. Some uneven ground, and possibly muddy in places. Please wear stout footwear and be prepared for rain. A walking stick or pole could be helpful as there may be slippery sections. Please bring a snack and drink.

August 18: Walks at 10.20am, 10.40am and 11am, led by members of the Barrow health walks team. Meet at The Three Crowns Inn car park, Cotes Road, Barrow upon Soar, LE12 8JS. Walk duration one hour. A friendly free volunteer led group walks around the local area.

• Bookings can be made by phone on 01509 63 4673 during weekdays - please leave a message if you go through to voicemail. Bookings can be made by email to sport@charnwood.gov.uk. On all messages & emails please provide name, phone and email (if available), and the walk name, date and time you wish to book onto - we will then get back to you to confirm the booking, offer an alternative place, or to add you to a waiting list.

• Walks will be split into groups of up to 6 people including the walk leader.

• To enable as many people as possible to join in on regular group walks we are limiting the number of places available to book at any one time. As of 05/08/20, one place can be booked per person per fortnight. We will hold waiting lists for walks and record interest from you if you wish to be considered for extra walks within the fortnight. We will then contact names on the waiting list on a first come first served basis if there are places available in the day, or days prior to the walk. This process will be reviewed regularly.

• There is unlikely to be access to toilets at the start/finish.

• There is unlikely to be access to a cafe for a chat and drink post-walk.

• We recommend that you bring your own PPE. The walks will be adhering to 2m social distancing, or 1m+ for short periods where this is not possible. In general the routes will avoid touch points like gates and stiles, however these may be encountered, therefore we recommend bringing hand-sanitiser.
