Warriors ready for new challenge

-

CHARNWOOD Rutland Warriors are preparing for their return to court after netball was given the green light to return to training this week by England Netball and the Government.

The Loughborough based club, who have kept players fit and active during lockdown with online skills

and strength and conditioning sessions, returned to training this week, with leagues planned to start at the end of September.

The Warriors will be facing a new challenge this season with their Premier League team having secured promotion to the National Premier League Division Two, the first time an East Midlands team has reached that level.

Alongside their Premier team, the Senior Regional side will be hoping to challenge strongly in Division One of the East Midlands Regional League, with a number of young players making the step up into the senior side. The club will also be looking to continue their history of success in the U16 National Club Finals Competition.

Netball will look slightly different on its return, with some modifications from England Netball to

make the game ‘Covid-safe’, but Head Coach Sam Griffin says they are just pleased to get back on court.

“We can’t wait to get going with our teams and get back to playing netball. It’s been a long five months since we last were on court so we are very excited to be back. We have a lot of plans this season with some changes to our training schedule to help us grow our performance and development pathways and also grow our coaching team.

“The girls have been brilliant during lockdown, working really hard on their fitness and skills at home and we’ve been running strength and conditioning sessions since the end of July so we are ready for the return to court. It will be an exciting challenge for our Prem side to establish ourselves in Division Two, and for our regional side to push on in Division One – we can’t wait.”
