UHLSPORT UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION WELLINGBOROUGH TOWN 1 SHEPSHED

DYNAMO 2 SHEPSHED Dynamo retained their 100 per cent record with a 2-1 away victory at Wellingborough Town and for the second consecutive game they ended another team’s unbeaten record.

Wellingborough took an early lead on five minutes but Shepshed led at half time through goals from Jake Betts on 20 minutes and Reece Morris on 43 minutes.

Both teams had chances in the second half with Town’s goalkeeper Joshua McAdoo in fine form and Shepshed withheld late pressure to go three points clear at the top of the table in the early stages of the season.

Wellingborough were on the front foot from the beginning Lloyd Buckby’s effort blocked on three minutes.

White was then called into action tipping Buckby’s shot away for a corner. From the resultant corner Dan Stevenson reacted the quickest and rose the highest to head passed White into the far corner, Jordan Wakeling desperately and possibly impeded tried to get between two Wellingborough players but in vain as the ball nestled into the net giving the hosts the lead.

The Doughboys were looking to put Shpeshed out of sight early on but White comfortably held onto Aaron Cormack’s long distance effort on eight minutes.

Dynamo were given a man advantage on 19 minutes when Harry Chipchase was sin binned. Shepshed went on the immediate attack Jahdahn Harper found Matt Melbourne in the box who looked like he had been tackled from behind but the referee gave Dynamo a corner.

Like Wellingborough earlier Shepshed were to score from the resultant corner Motshweni’s corner was flicked goal wards by Betts, it’s possible Morris may have got a touch on the way and it’s also debatable whether Melbourne also got a touch before the ball crossed the line. But the goal was credited to Betts to give Shepshed an equaliser on 20 minutes.

Shepshed had the best of the chances for the remainder of the half Melbourne’s dangerous ball across the box on 30 minutes, followed by Morris’s effort blocked on 32 minutes later.

Shepshed took the lead on 43 minutes Harper found Melbourne on the edge of the box who used his strength to turn the Wellingborough defence his well weighted pass found Morris who slotted passed the advancing McAdoo into the bottom corner for the goal.

Dynamo nearly made it three on 49 minutes Morris rounded McAdoo but from an acute angle his shot rebounded off the foot of the upright.

A minute later Matt Long thought he had split Shepshed’s defence wide open as he was left one on one with White but the assistant referee’s flag on the far side was up for offside.

As in the first half Shepshed began to take control of the game Morris firing wide on 53 minutes and Brennan off target on 59 minutes. A minute later McAdoo pulled off a fine finger tip save to deny Melbourne.

Wellingborough then had a spell of pressure pushing for an equaliser. George Wingrove had a glorious chance with a free header in the box which he could only put over the crossbar. A minute later Alex Lowery was off target and a further two minutes later Jack O’Connor could only head straight at White.

McAdoo became The Doughboys saviour again on 73 minutes with another finger tip save this time from Brennan and a minute later Stevenson did well to clear Brennan’s headed effort.

As the game went into the last 10 minutes Lowery headed over again and he also had a shot off target on 81 minutes but Shepshed held on and deserved their win to go three points clear at the top of the table.

With no midweek action Shepshed travel to Harborough Town in the league on Saturday.
