A quickfire King double nets Shepshed away win

UHLSPORT UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION COGENHOE UNITED 0 SHEPSHED DYNAMO 2 SHEPSHED Dynamo were on their travels this week as they made the hour long journey to Compton Park to play Cogenhoe United who sat 12th in The United Counties Premier Division.

Cogenhoe had the first chance of the game when Nat Anshu laid the ball of to Michael Cirelli but his cross into the box was easily dealt with by Shepshed keeper Marty White.

Moments later Shepshed had their first chance of the match when Karl Whymark took a decent free kick that curled over the Cogenhoe wall and just wide of the post.

Cogenhoe then had a free kick of there own when Aynsley McDonald delivered it into the Shepshed box but as before White gathered the ball with some ease.

Matt Melbourne had a shot but it was dealt with by the Cogenhoe defence then Ansu had a volley at goal for Cogenhoe but had no power behind it and White got across to make the save.

John King crossed to Melbourne who hit a superb shot that forced Cogenhoe keeper Langley to make a superb one handed safe.

After the interval, Shepshed opened the scoring on 55 minutes, as Melbourne picked out John King inside the box who was completely unmarked and had time to steady himself before hitting a sweet low drive just inside the far post.

King then struck again two minutes later this time with a simple finish from close range as Mundell fired in a low cross the ball took a deflection on the way but it found its way to King at the back post who fired the ball home from close range.

Shepshed had their tales up know Mundell had a shot saved, Morris had an header just go over the bar and Melbourne had a thunderbol­t of a shot saved and then put his rebound wide and Reece Morris had a shot clip the crossbar.

Price had a 25 yarder saved by Shepshed keeper White and Ansu had an header but it went wide of the post.

Shepshed had a penalty appeal turned down when Brennan was tripped in the box then Motshweni had a shot saved.

But there was still time for some late late drama as Morris was brought down by McDonald in the penalty area and the ref pointed straight to the spot but before the penalty was taken the ref sent McDonald Off.

Brennan had the chance to increase Shepshed’s lead but Brad Langley dived to his right to save the spot kick.

This was the final action of the match and this Shepshed win ended Cogenhoe’s five match unbeaten run and keeps them second in the league tabler, just one point behind leaders Anstey Nomads.
