People needing Covid test are knocking at our door – without a mask
WORRIED residents of a street say they are being put at risk because people trying to find a walk-through coronavirus test centre keep asking them for directions.
People regularly miss the entrance to the Loughborough site off Limehurst Avenue, residents said.
One woman who lives in the street said her father regularly got people knocking on his door asking where the test centre is.
She said: “I was amazed by how many people were turning up looking for it. My dad had to give directions.
“I put a sign on the door to say there are vulnerable people here, please do not knock.
“The most alarming thing for me is there were people coming unmasked to the gate.”
Some residents complained to Charnwood Borough Council and NHS Test and Trace about the problem. A spokesman for the Department of Health and Social Care said: “Those attending testing sites are provided with rules about how to do so in a way that minimises the risk to themselves – including the need to avoid contact with others while en route.” Meanwhile, a walkthrough testing facility has opened on the Loughborough University campus.
The site, in Shirely Pearce Square, off Epinal Way, is open to students and members of the public and will operate an appointments system.
Tests will be available only to people who have symptoms of the virus - typically a high temperature, a new, continuous cough, or a loss or change to sense of smell or taste.
